Boat Parade at Summer Squall 2013
‘Did you ever see the most beautiful boats, bouncing on the bold, blue sea?’
A Flotilla of Boats, A Parade to the Sea!
Seafront, Monday 26th August 7.15pm
Celebrate Ramsgate’s connections to the sea by joining in our fantastic, colourful and musical parade. Bring your boats and get dressed up – pirates are always welcome! The parade, led by Viper Corps Drums, will commence at 7.30pm and make its way down to the seafront for more music (including sea shanties from Short Drag Roger, Sam the Shantyman and Big Fish Arts) prize-giving and finale on Ramsgate main sands. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Meet – with boats and costumes – at the old MotorMuseum (Paragon, opp. Churchill Tavern, Ramsgate) at 7.15pm. Prizes will be awarded for:
- Spirit of Ramsgate (boat that best represents the town) – prize kindly donated by The Ramsgate Society
- Best Costume at the Parade (under 12s)
- Best Boat (by public vote)
The Festival comes to a close with a barbecue on the beach (subject to weather conditions!) organised by the Cafe on the Beach.
We have specially made FREE boat shapes for you to use, which you can collect from venues around town. Workshops will also be taking place to develop ideas and enjoy a shared activity:
