A monthly get together for everyone interested in the arts.

The Festival Club is for everyone who is either a practising artist or craftsperson or interested in the arts. The monthly sessions are run by Ramsgate Arts and offer an opportunity to meet people with similar interests and maybe, eventually, hatch some plans together. It’s an informal session – drinks and snacks are available, and there’s usually a talk or short piece of work by someone – which may promote discussion. There’s also an opportunity to broadcast any forthcoming arts events to people who are interested in creative work.

It’s a sociable thing – everyone welcome – held on the last Thursday of the month at 8.00pm at the Small Boat Owners Club on Guildford Lawn, Ramsgate, next door to the library.

The next Festival Club session is 31st May 2012:

Loki, Norse God, Trickster, Shape-Shifter, Trouble-Maker, is storyteller Emily Parrish’s latest obsession. Together with musician, Filipe Gomes, she is creating her first ever (eek) full length storytelling performance which follows the trail of both destruction and friendship that Loki leaves behind.

Emily (and hopefully Filipe!) will be sharing a short story from the piece, which will premier at A Summer Squall Festival this year.

Attention musicians, poets, storytellers and singers!

If you are interested in performing – please email us – info@ramsgatearts.org

Arts and Crafts market located at the Royal Harbour in Ramsgate on Monday 29 August

Ramsgate Arts Festival, as part of their annual Summer Squall celebrations, will once again hold an Arts and Crafts market located at the Royal Harbour in Ramsgate (East Pier side of the Harbour) on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 August from 10.30 a.m until 5pm.

With a population of just under 40,000 Ramsgate is a natural magnet for those who love everything to do with the sea. Its Royal Harbour, the only royal harbour in the United Kingdom, is the location of choice for most of the Festival’s activities though Ramsgate Arts will be staging events in many of the outlining suburbs during the August Bank Holiday weekend as well. Last year’s Ramsgate Arts Summer Squall was unquestionably the most important artistic event held in the town in 2011. With a whole variety of events from live music, theatre, street performers, art exhibitions, creative workshops, open studios and children’s events the Summer Squall is guaranteed to be a lively and busy occasion.

How to apply:

Please download and fill in the booking form and return by post with your remittance and a copy of your public liability insurance as shown.

*New stall holders may acquire Public Liability Insurance with a limit of indemnity up to £5 million for approximately £60.00 per annum. This insurance can be obtained by going online.

Urban spaces often appear grey and unappealing, benches in our town centre look uncomfortable, lacking the bright cosiness of home. Wouldn't it be great to have mini paradise areas where you feel tempted to sit and chat to friends, read a book or just watch the world go by?!

Ramsgate Arts and local visual artist Emily Tull are asking people to help create a Pavement Paradise which will be on show in Ramsgate during this year’s A Summer Squall festival, running from Saturday 25 – Monday 27 August, the bank holiday weekend. We are inviting families, schools, community and social groups to help us create funky fun street furnishings: bright cushions, fantastic rugs, hanging baskets, fancy flowers or even bench jumpers, scarves and gloves, to brighten up the street scene, especially in the pedestrianised areas. Things could be made from recycled items (plastic bags, bottles, cans for example), even knitting, weaving or origami – anything’s possible. You can take part whatever your age. You can even take it as a chance to teach someone a new skill, as part of your local ‘stitch and bitch’ night, or just as a way to get together and share ideas and chat! There will be prizes for the ones we love best, in children, adult and group categories.

Schools who would like to get involved should download our leaflet which gives further details of how to take part.

For more information on how to take part please contact Ramsgate Arts via info@ramsgatearts.org or 07939 542990. We’re on Facebook at RamsgateArts and you can find out about the festival itself at www.ramsgatearts.org
